Attic insulation for Toronto homes
Toronto has two very different attic types. Pre-war brick semis and detached homes in neighbourhoods like the Annex, Leslieville, Riverdale and the Junction often have shallow attics, 1.5-storey layouts with knee walls, and very little original insulation. Post-war bungalows across Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke and East York usually have a simple open attic, but low-slope roofs leave tight eaves where baffles are easy to skip.
We serve homeowners across Toronto, including the Annex, Leslieville, Riverdale, the Junction, East York, North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke.
What we often find in Toronto attics
Knee walls and half-storey attics
Common in older homes. The sloped ceilings and knee-wall spaces need their own plan; blowing the main attic floor alone leaves cold rooms upstairs.
Vermiculite
Older Toronto homes are more likely to have vermiculite loose fill, which may contain asbestos. We stop and recommend testing before anything is disturbed.
Knob-and-tube wiring
Still present in some pre-war homes. It has to be checked by an electrician before insulation goes around it.
Tight eaves on bungalows
Low roof pitch makes the eaves hard to reach, which is exactly where soffit baffles get skipped.
